MAC CINDERELLA HAUL & REVIEW

I'm no connoisseur when it comes to beauty and make-up, let alone a MAC junkie. I've never really kept up with their limited edition collections but when their collaboration with Disney for the upcoming Cinderella movie blinked onto my radar, it was pretty much love at first sight. I have previously been put off by the more 'out there' shades in their past collections so what drew me to this one was the overall neutral colour scheme, the products would be plenty more wearable for me. I actually didn't realise the collection would be released online on the 6th of March, I think I happened to be on twitter and just saw someone tweet that it was live, headed straight onto the website and managed to scoop up these pieces. I really wanted the eyeshadow palette and lipstick in Royal Ball, the latter unfortunately sold out in my cart so I decided to pick up the other lipstick shade instead. In a last minute frenzy I also added one lipgloss and one gel eyeliner to my order. Unfortunately I think the collection has now sold out online but I thought it might still be nice to share my thoughts on these items.

This palette consists of the shades Vapour, Phloof!, Omega, Quarry, Satin Taupe, and Stroke of Midnight. I'm sure most of these are permanent MAC shadows so I ponder the exclusivity of it but for someone who didn't previously own any of these shades, it seemed like the perfect palette. It's quite compact (fits into the palm of my hand), which of course makes it ideal to travel with. The colours are also a little on the purple side which I think is great for people with brown eyes like me.

I went for this shade out of the two fluid lines as I already own the regular version of Macroviolet (and absolutely love it). This one is a metallic gunmetal colour with silver flecks of glitter so it's much softer than a black eyeliner and a nice alternative to brown.

As I mentioned, I originally wanted the other peachier shade as I'm not the biggest fan of light nude lips. I really think online stores should make it that once something's in your basket, it's safe for a limited amount of time until you check out. Alas as this was not the case I took a chance on Free as a Butterfly, which is described on the site as a 'semisheer golden nude'. When I saw it in person, I was terrified as it looked way too light for my skin tone and screamed 'concealer lips'. When swatched on the lips however, it's quite sheer so it just lightens your lip colour a bit (mine are naturally quite pink so it gave quite a nice nude finish to them). I also tried it on top of a darker lip liner such as Rimmel's Eastend Snob and the result was the perfect pinky nude shade with a gorgeous cool-toned shimmer.

Apparently the two lipgloss shades were quite similar, Happily Ever After just has a blueish sparkle to it as opposed to pink sparkle, making it look more cool-toned. I'm not usually a gloss wearer as I stick to matte lip products but I thought I'd try something new for spring, and this shade looks perfect on top of the previous lipstick.

This is a daytime look I came up with using some of the products. Please excuse the static hair and crazy eyebrows, I'm still in the process of growing them out. Also this is the first time I've taken a self portrait photo, I don't have a remote or tripod so it was kind of trial and error and I'm still figuring out framing and focus points. Hopefully I'll do more of these 'face of the day' posts (if you want to see them, that is) and I'll get better with practice. From the eyeshadow palette I'm wearing  Phloof! all over the lids, Quarry from the crease to the brow bone, and Satin Taupe to deepen the outer crease (I should've taken a photo looking down as well since I have quite hooded eyes argh, next time I'll remember). I lined my eyes using the Little Black Bow fluid line and blended it out slightly. Under my eyes I smudged a tiny bit of Quarry. On my lips I applied Rimmel's Eastend Snob all over then Free as a Butterfly lipstick and a tiny bit of Happily Ever After gloss over it. I'm not really used to wearing cool toned colours in terms of make-up but I'm happy with how this turned out and it's persuaded me to steer away from my usual golds and bronzes for a while. I'm looking forward to using these products for a darker night-time look, especially the gorgeous, deep Stroke of Midnight shade. Overall I'm really pleased with the items I chose and this whole collection in general. I think the packaging is spot on, evoking the classic Cinderella vibes whilst still keeping it simple and clean looking so it doesn't come across as tacky or child-like.

Did you pick up anything from this collection? If you missed out, what would you have chosen or are you not fussed about it?

  1. I love the packaging on this collection, almost wish I'd tried to pick something up! I'm not a fan of pale lipsticks really so I'd probably go for the gorgeous eye shadow palette and the fluid liner! x

  13. I think that there is a little bit of an over hype with these products- like the palette is going for over £100 on ebay. The lipsticks are beautiful, but I think there's more to life then make up and when I here about people queuing for hours to get these at ridiculous times in the morning- I can't help but think what else they could've been doing! However you do look beautiful and the colours are perfect for you x
