Ahh the handkerchief hemline. Skirts in this shape used to make up my pre-teen wardrobe, I wore them with 90s denim jackets and embellished tees whilst taking no heed to pattern clashing or colour matching *cringe*. Naturally I was a little alarmed when I saw hanky skirts coming back into stores but make no mistake, these are not like ones from the 90s. I’ve come to realise that one in the right material or print can completely revitalise your wardrobe for the summer. I’ve gone for one in a gorgeous broderie anglaise material that’s perfect for the warmer season and many an occasion. I’m evoking a day out shopping or a picnic in the park (just gotta be careful where you plonk your behind as with all white bottoms). There’s something carefree and bohemian about it’s floaty silhouette that would make it a great festival piece too (perhaps not in white though, I did see a lovely black paisley printed one in good ol’ Primania). Have I harped on enough about the handkerchief skirt? I’m trying to resist buying any more of them (they’re not the most classic shape after all) but who am I to deny a new love affair?
